"One in a Million" Opening on 4 April

"One in a Million"

"One in a Million"

"One in a Million," Maximillian Franz's latest exhibit, is currently up at Grind On Café on Harford Road in Hamilton (Baltimore), Maryland. Franz is a very talented photojournalist, nature, portrait, wedding and commercial photographer. He has been photographing for over fifteen years and he currently works for the Daily Record, as well as doing freelance work.

“One in a Million” takes a close personal look into the daily life of the photographer’s son, Maximillian Franz II, a 5 year old diagnosed with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrom, which is a severe form of Epilepsy that affects about 4% of childhood Epilepsy cases in the United States, often with no identifiable cause. His opening was on Saturday, April 4th, and was greatly moving.

This series of Black and White photographs documents Max’s perspective of his son’s life since his birth. The photographs are taken with high speed black and white film, using only available light. They are very large and beautiful prints that allow the viewer to feel as if they were there along with this little boy in these moments. These are very intimate and heartfelt photographs that immerse the viewer into the world of this father and son.

While normally shows in cafés or restaurants don't seem to garner as much respect as much as those in “galleries,” in this instance it worked quite successfully. As Franz was attempting to raise awareness for this disease as well as raise money, he reached an audience that may very well have never seen his work elsewhere. In relation to the subject matter, his work felt at home and comfortable in this cozy little café in a way that it would not have on the walls of a larger gallery.

All of the prints from this show, descriptions, as well as his other work, can be seen on his website [here]. The exhibit will be up for a month at Grind On Café, 4607 Harford Road.

So since I don't have an actual place to add this to my website, I'd like to post some pictures from various zombie makeup applications. More soon.

ALL makeup and photographs by me.
I have several more photographs of a few more people who I've done makeup for.
Let me know if interested, comments, or any suggestions!

ch-ch-ch-changes

Due to some creative differences with the person that hacked my last email address while I was living in Europe, I have had to give up deathspalehorse.blogspot and have moved my blog to DEATHANDCUPCAKES.

The new website is ALMOST up and running. Should be done by the middle of next week.

I was recently in a 3 person group photography show in MICA's Wilgus Gallery and soon will be in the MICA-Loyola Group show. Check it out if you get the chance.

Currently I am curating an online exhibition with the theme "Death and Cupakes." If anyone is interested in participating, please contact me ASAP at emilyrose@deathspalehorse.com
